Meatloaf Jerky Dog Treats

My dogs love these treats. They’re grain free and healthy. Using dehydrated or freeze dried fruit helps remove a lot of the moisture content to quicken the drying process. Eggs will help to bind the ingredients together.

The smaller the fruit and veggie pieces the easier it will be to cut the loaf. The loaf won’t slice very easily before it’s been put into the freezer for about an hour or so.

Place slices on the dehydrator, making sure that none of the pieces are touching each other. I’m sure you can dry them in the oven on the lowest temperature. I feel like a dehydrator is less likely to accidentally burn it.

Once dry they are ready to serve! My dog can be picky with his treats but he very much looks forward for these ones and they’re gone before you know it!

Instructions
  1. First off, you'll want to finely chop or shred your carrots or other veggie of choice and steam them in a small pan on medium heat for 4-5 minutes, drain well and dry with a paper towel. This will help with the digestibility. Otherwise you can use raw.
  2. In a medium sized bowl, mix the ground meat, carrot, blueberries, eggs, parsley, and sauce together until well combined.
  3. Shape into a loaf and put into the freezer for about an hour or so. Freezing will help make it easier to cut into slices.
  4. After taking the loaf out of the freezer, cut into even slices about 1/4 inch thick and place onto your dehydrator. Drying time is roughly 6 hours. The thinner the slices the quicker they'll dehydrate.
  5. The treats are done once most of the moisture gone and they are similar to jerky in texture. If you're concerned about bacteria in the meat, heat oven to 170°F and cook treats for 10 minutes.
  6. Serve or save in the fridge.
